Focusing primarily on complex civil litigation, Mr. Gilman also works on a variety of litigation matters including personal injury and wrongful death cases arising from professional negligence, and from highway defects. A decade ago, he achieved one of the first significant medical malpractice verdicts on behalf of a plaintiff in Bucks County, and he has developed a record of substantial success in resolving such cases throughout his career.
Mr. Gilman has been an attorney for over 30 years and a Bucks County resident for over 20 years. After earning a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1976. Mr. Gilman served as a judicial law clerk for former Bucks County Judge Edmund V. Ludwig, and then served as a public defender for two years while a resident of Doylestown Borough. He then spent six years in the Office of Attorney General of Pennsylvania, defending Commonwealth agencies and Commonwealth employees in a variety of civil cases, many of them highly complex, in which they were named as defendants. His work in the Office of the Attorney General culminated in his promotion to Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Chief of the Tort Litigation Section, responsible for supervising a staff of 10 assistant Attorneys General along with support staff, while maintaining responsibility for his own litigation caseload.
For the past 22 years, Gary has been a lawyer in the private sector, first with a small firm in Philadelphia, and since 1988, with the law firm of Stief, Gross, Sagoskin, Gilman & Classetti in Newtown. Mr. Gilman has been involved in extensive litigation in cases involving professional negligence, highway design and highway maintenance, criminal law, and family law. He became a certified mediator in 1988, and he has been hired by plaintiffs and defendants to serve as the neutral mediator or arbitrator in well-over 100 cases of various types since that time. He has tried more than 50 cases to jury verdict in his career, and has resolved literally thousands of cases by way of negotiated settlements.
Mr. Gilman and his family have always been active in our Bucks County community. He served on the Board of Directors of the Bucks County Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA) from 1997 to 2003, he has coached youth sports for the past 11 years, and he has been involved in a broad variety of social action and charitable activities. He currently serves his township as the volunteer chairperson of its Citizens Traffic Commission, responsible for promoting safe roads, safe driving, and reduced traffic congestion. Mr. Gilman, along with his law firm partners, has long been an active supporter of the Bucks County Heroes Scholarship Fund, a charitable organization which provides educational assistance to the children of police, fire, and EMS personnel killed in the line of duty. He and his law firm also supported the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund, which provides support and assistance to families caring for chronically ill, seriously ill or disabled children. Like all the partners and associates in his law firm, Mr. Gilman donates his time to provide free legal services to needy individuals.
